About Look & Listen
Look & Listen pairs the photography from artists showing at Pictura Gallery with local music from Bloomington, IN. The intent is to create a calming gallery tour that can be experienced virtually. The series was born out of necessity, as the nation is “sheltered in place”. We plan to continue this offering not only to highlight interesting pairings of art and music but share the gallery exhibits with a broader audience.This first iteration of Look & Listen pairs the curatorial edit of Andy Mattern’s colorful work from his show titled Optimal Conditions, with concise and meditative songs of Superstar Cruiser.

More on the Artists
Andy Mattern’s recent work engages photography’s aesthetic conventions and physical materials as subject matter. Since 2015, he has served as Assistant Professor of Photography and Digital Media at Oklahoma State University. His work is held in the permanent collections of SFMOMA, the New Mexico Museum of Art, the Tweed Museum of Art, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. His photographs have been reviewed in publications such as ARTFORUM, The New Yorker, Camera Austria, and Photonews. He holds an MFA in Photography from the University of Minnesota and a BFA in Studio Art from the University of New Mexico. He is represented by Elizabeth Houston Gallery in New York. Superstar Cruiser is Bloomington duo Julia and Glenn Myers. They have been making ambient space-synth tunes since 2017. We have chosen three songs from Superstar Cruisers’ 2017 album release Enceladus to pair with videos taken by our staff photographer (budding videographer) Chaz Mottinger. Each video encompasses the three distinct curatorial groupings of this show:
