In Range
Jennifer Ray’s project places me in a tangle of emotions. ‘In Range’ is a study of objects left over from target practice in shooting ranges.
The most striking thing for me about this project is how violence and the mundane are interwoven. The detritus in many of the images are easy to see as just that- inanimate trash. Every once in a while though, there is an object that shakes me into remembering that these bullet-ridden items are meant to house life. There are mangled sneakers, pockmarked polaroids, and a scarred playhouse door that has the sad beauty of a cathedral.
